5MASSEY FAIRGROUNDS CAMPING RULES
Please read the following rules and information to ensure your safety and the enjoyment of the site by all fairgoers, participants, and our amazing volunteers and staff.
1. CAMPSITE RULES
A) Do not maintain or store potential wildlife attractants, including food or beverages, food preparation or storage equipment, cooking devices or utensils, garbage or recycling products, scented products or any other item in a manner that is likely to attract wildlife. Deposit all garbage and litter in the containers provided to discourage wildlife from becoming pests. Campsites and/or facilities must be kept clean at all times to eliminate potential hazards to Massey Fairground visitors and minimize human-wildlife conflict. When leaving your campsite, you must remove all personal property, dispose of trash properly, and leave the site in its original condition. Failure to comply can result in fines or being banned from future events.
B) Only registered people staying at campsites are allowed on the fairgrounds between midnight and 8 am. All other guests must leave the site. Failure to comply can result in removal from the grounds, fines, or being banned from future events.
C) All people camping at the fair must have a valid weekend pass to enter the fairgrounds. This can be purchased in advance or at the gate. You will receive a wristband when you arrive. Once on the site, all fairgoers must wear their Massey Fair wristband at all times.
D) All vehicles must park in the designated area and display a valid camping permit. You must prominently display your valid camping permit on your dashboard at all times.
E) For the safety of fairgoers and volunteers, vehicles may not exit and enter the grounds during the fair. Please plan ahead and bring what you need when you come. This applies to onsite camping in Camping Areas 1, 2, and 3 and Tent Camping.
F) Only one steering wheel is permitted in each camping spot. You must pay for additional parking spots and park extra vehicles in the parking lot north of the fairgrounds. The cost for a weekend parking pass is $25.
G) The Massey Agricultural Society has provided space for event patrons to camp on the fairgrounds to enjoy Massey Agricultural Society events. Rowdy behaviour, which includes excessive noise, or obscene language or gestures, is not permitted. You cannot disturb any other person or interfere with their enjoyment of the event any time of the day or night. Noise from campsites should be limited after midnight until 7 am.
H) For the security of our ride provider, vendors, other campers, and event participants, individuals camping on the fairgrounds are not allowed to roam the fairgrounds between midnight and 7 am.
I) No open flame campfires will be allowed at campsites. Possession or use of fireworks is prohibited at the Massey Fair at all times. They constitute a fire hazard and disturb visitors, animals on exhibit, and wildlife.
2. CAMPER/TRAILER RULES
A) All camper vehicles must be in good repair and no more than 15 years old. The Massey Agricultural Society reserves the right to refuse campers that are not in good repair.
B) All camper vehicles must be insured. Ownership documents and insurance documents must be presented when arriving at the fairgrounds.
C) All camper vehicles must have sleeping quarters. No party trailers will be permitted.
3. ARRIVAL
A) When arriving camping vehicles must enter and the fairgrounds at the parking lot entrance. This gate is located on Imperial St. N, across from Chutes Park.
B) Campers will be permitted to arrive at the fairgrounds starting Thursday, August 27. In order to come early you must:
i) Have a valid Early Camping Pass. This can be purchased in advance or at the gate.
OR
ii) Volunteer to help at the fairgrounds for at least 4 hours any time between Thursday and Monday. The volunteer app link will be posted here once it is available.
C) Campers arriving early may begin lining up at 10 am on Thursday, August 27. You will be marshalled in our back parking lot. PLEASE DO NOT line up before 10 am. We will be allowing campers into camping areas at approximately 1 pm. If you are bringing horses, you will not be allowed onsite until 1 pm. Please plan accordingly.
You may arrive on Thursday, August 27 until 8 pm. We will open again on Friday, August 28 at 7 am to accept campers. If you arrive on Friday there is no extra fee or volunteering obligation (although we'd love some help if you can offer!)
D) The fair opens at 4 pm on Friday, August 28. Please do not enter buildings or the vendor area until after 4 pm unless you are volunteering in that area.
E) All campers (regardless of your arrival time) should come to the fairgrounds via Imperial St (Hwy 553). Please come to the parking lot entrance (across from Chute's Park) where you will be directed to the marshalling area or your campsite.
F) Campers in Camper Area 1 and Camper Area 2 must arrive before 3 pm.
4. EXITING
A) The fair closes at 4 pm on Sunday, August 30. We will be allowing campers to leave during the following intervals:
Sunday morning between 7 - 9 am and Sunday afternoon after 4 pm. For the safety of fairgoers, you will not be allowed to leave outside of these times. When you leave, you must exit through Gate 6.
B) We will be allowing interested campers to stay until Monday, August 31. In order to stay late you must:
i) Have a valid Late Exit Camping Pass. This can be purchased in advance or at the gate.
OR
ii) Volunteer to help at the fairgrounds for at least 4 hours any time between Thursday and Monday. The volunteer app link will be posted here once it is available.
C) Campers leaving on Sunday, August 30 must leave by 8 pm. Campers leaving on Monday, August 31 must leave by 4 pm.
5. AMENITIES AVAILABLE AT THE FAIRGROUNDS
A) Portable toilets will be available around the site. There will also be a shower trailer. Water on the site is municipal water and is safe for drinking and cooking.
B) Food vendors will be onsite and open during fair hours.
C) The Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers Fire Fighters and St. John's Ambulance will be available during fair hours. In case of an emergency outside of fair hours, please call 911.
D) Jim's Portable Toilets will be available for pumping services.
6. ALCOHOL AT THE FAIR
A) If you are 19 years of age or older, you are permitted to possess or consume liquor (beer, wine, spirits) on your campsite. Alcohol for personal consumption on your site must be brought with you when you arrive. Security will be checking all coolers and backpacks at entry gates and will confiscate all liquor being brought onsite by individuals during the fair.
B) A Bar tent is available at the Main Stage. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages may be brought into or taken out of the licensed area.
C) Possession and consumption of alcohol in public areas of the fairgrounds outside of the Bar licensed area is strictly prohibited.
D) Drivers are responsible for ensuring that liquor is properly stored while in a vehicle. Liquor must be in a container that is unopened and the seal unbroken or is packed away and not accessible to any person in the vehicle.
7. SECURITY AT THE FAIR
A) Unattended items left outside your camper/tent are at your own risk. The Massey Agricultural Society is not liable for any loss, damage, or injury while you are camping on the site.
B) Security personnel will be onsite starting Thursday morning to assist volunteers with ensuring a safe and fun event. They are not responsible for the security of individual camping sites.
8. TREATMENT OF STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS
A) All fair guests must conduct themselves in a respectful way at all times when dealing with Massey Agricultural Society volunteers, staff, vendors, security, and the general public. Fairgoers who show disrespect, including but not limited to, verbal abuse, physical threat/violence toward others, insults, condescension, and actions that create fear or distress for others, will be required to leave the event and will not be allowed to return for future events. The decision will be at the discretion of a Massey Agricultural Society board.
B) We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment, shouting, or hostile behaviour towards our employees and volunteers. Our staff are here to provide you with the best possible service, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect at all times. A little kindness goes a long way.
9. DOGS
A) No dogs are allowed on the fairgrounds. Service dogs are exempt from this rule.
10. CONSEQUENCES OF FAILURE TO COMPLY
Failure to comply with the Massey Agricultural Society Camping Rules will result in a warning, a possible fine or possible removal from the Massey Fairgrounds at your expense, without refund of any paid camping fees, vendor fees, or event registration fees. If you are disciplined in any manner (warning, fine, removal) your future access to camp at the Massey Agricultural Society Fairgrounds may be affected.
